Trojans Sweep ASU on Senior Day

After dropping the series opener to Arkansas State on Friday night, the Troy Trojans battled back to sweep a double-header from the Red Wolves on Senior Day to take the series and clinch a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The Trojans took the opening game 11-6 before taking the nightcap 9-3.
Troy improved to 29-22 overall on the year and 14-13 in Sun Belt play with the sweep while ASU falls to 27-24 overall and 15-12 in league play.
The Red Wolves scored single runs off Troy starter Drew Hull (4-5) in the first, third and fifth innings. The junior allowed 11 hits in his six innings of work but walked just one and struck out four.
Nick Ward turned in two solid innings of relief for Troy before turning the game over to Chase Whitley in the ninth. The Troy closer struck out two of the three hitters he faced to close out the game.
Troy took the lead in the second inning by scoring a pair of unearned runs off ASU starter Ross Humes (5-4). The Washington State transfer started strong by striking out four of the first five Troy hitters, but ran out of gas in the fifth inning when the Trojans scored four times.
The big blow for the Trojans in the inning was a three-run homer by Adam Bryant, his 17th of the year.
Troy added three insurance runs in the eighth inning, one on a solo homer by Ryan Ditthardt, one on a balk by reliever Brad Allen and another on an error by third baseman Taylor Clements.
On the day, Bryant had three hits and drove in five runs for Troy, as did Steven Felix, who was hit by pitches three times in the second game. Ditthardt had three hits and drove in two, J.R. Myers had three hits and Miles Hoyle had two.
For Arkansas State, Michael Faulkner had three hits on the day, Todd Baumgartner had six hits, including four in the second game, Jordan Castaldo had three hits, Murray Watts had two as did Kyle DeGrace and Zach Maggio.
The Trojans will play their final non-conference game of the year on Tuesday afternoon at Kennesaw State. That game is set for a 2 p.m. (CT) start.
Troy will close the regular season at South Alabama with a three-game series starting on Thursday night.
