Troy University senior shortstop Adam Bryant enters his final season of collegiate baseball with very high expectations.
Those expectations were elevated even more when he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) 2011 Preseason All-America team.
Bryant was one of three players from the Sun Belt Conference named to the squad. He was joined by Florida Atlantic's Andy Mee, who is a two-way player, and Florida International's Garrett Wittles. Mee was a second team pick as a utility player and Wittles was the third team shortstop.
“Adam Bryant has earned this type of recognition and we are all proud that he was named as a Preseason All-American by such a prestigious organization,” Trojans head coach Bobby Pierce said.
“Adam has become one of the best shortstops in all of Division I baseball and he is eager to begin his senior season as a Trojan. We anticipate him having another outstanding season in 2011.”
Bryant hit .356 during a spectacular junior season in which he was among the national leaders in home runs, total bases and slugging percentage. He finished the year with 23 homers and 65 RBI while at the same time playing defense at the highest level. His three errors last year were the fewest among all regular shortstops in the nation.
Most remarkably, Bryant managed those accomplishments while playing with a shoulder injury that required off-season surgery.
Bryant and the Trojans will open the 2011 season at home on February 18 against High Point University. Troy will play 21 of its first 23 games at Riddle-Pace Field to open the year. Season tickets for Troy baseball will go on sale in early January.
