The race is the final regular season race for the Trojans as they prepare for conference
TROY, Ala. - The Troy University Trojans' cross country teams return home this week to compete in the Coach “O” Invitational. The race will take place on the Trojans Oaks Golf Course lower portion Saturday morning.
The Coach “O” Invitational will be a chance for the Trojans to compete against tough competition, including some Sun Belt teams, before heading into the Conference Championships in two weeks.
"I'm happy that we get to host two great races at home this year and the field should provide good competition," Director of Track and Field, Jill Lancaster, said. “This will be help us judge where we are being so close to the conference championship,”
The field includes the likes Tuskegee, Spring Hill, Huntingdon, South Alabama and Albany State.
The Trojans have had a successful season and the coaches think that the home race will be a good ending to the regular season.
The first home meet, in September, was a good showing for the Trojans and a repeat of that success would be a boost to the team as the head into the post-season.
“This weekend's race should be an excellent tune-up leading into the Sun Belt Championships in two weeks,” coach Stephane Hetherington said. “We have improved steadily all season long across the board and will continue to do so.”
The expectations are high for the Trojans as they enter the final regular season weekend.
“I expect both our men's and women's teams to be competing for the top spot this weekend,” Hetherington said.
The race will begin with the men at 9:30 and the women at 10.
