Time For The Slump To End
3/20/2009 5:00:00 AM | Baseball

After getting off to a hot start, including the win over ranked Alabama, we have found ourselves in somewhat of a slump over the past few weeks.
Although there have been some signs of success here and there. Since defeating Alabama, we found ourselves squeezing by Samford while going 2-3 on a seven-day road trip.
Returning home from a long and stressful trip, we looked to turn things around against a tough LeMoyne team. The bats seemed to get back on track in the first two games as we won both but, on Sunday, we found ourselves packing our bags and going home with a loss.
The struggle continued on Wednesday afternoon as we lost to in-state rival Jacksonville State. The pitching staff combined for nine runs, two home runs, and double-digit hits, while the bats only pinched out six hits.
Chad Watson led the way with three hits of his own.
In order to get back on track, we will have to figure out where our weak spots are and fix them before the coming weekend against the favorites to win the Sun Belt Conference, Western Kentucky. They will be seeking revenge after getting swept by the Trojans at home last year in rain and snowy conditions.
There is no doubt to us players and the coaching staff that we will slip out of the slump we are in. As the coaches have told us many times, it is up to the players to get out of it and we have all the confidence in the world that it will change this weekend.
The good thing about baseball, as I mentioned in my previous blog, is you get to go out the next day to compete to win; and this is a perfect example.
I was always told growing up that the only way to be successful is to fail. It is odd to say that when a hitter goes three for 10 and is batting .300, he is considered a good hitter. But no players strive for that. They strive to go 10 for 10 and when they fail those seven out of 10 times, they find the mistakes and get better.
As we prepare to take the field Friday at Riddle-Pace Field, we will do nothing different but go out and compete and have fun as we have done our whole lives.
We hope and expect to see a lot of faces in the stands supporting us this weekend as we look to turn this thing around and win the series against Sun Belt foes Western Kentucky!
Go Trojans!
