MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Troy Trojans continue on their road trip tonight when they play the home-standing Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee in the first game of a pivotal three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
“This is going to be a tough series this weekend,” Trojans' coach Bobby Pierce said. “We have been hitting the ball well but we have left a lot of runners on base. If we can get timely hits, we have a chance to score some runs. If we want to make a run for the conference championship, it must start this weekend. ”
Troy (27-19, 13-7) is coming off of a mid-week win at Auburn. In that game the Trojan bats were hot in a 6-3 victory. Junior Beau Brooks hit two home runs in the game with senior Bryan Miller adding another double to his national lead. Troy pounded out 17 hits in the game but they have left 27 runners on base in the last two games.
Middle Tennessee enters this weekend at 22-20-1, 10-13 in the Sun Belt.
Troy will send the “Big Red Head”, sophomore Tim Wheeler (3-5) to the hill tonight to open the series.
Senior Ryan Ellison (2-3) will hurl the ball for the Trojans on Saturday with junior Jeff Green (2-3) closing out the series on Sunday.
The games will be carried locally on 94.7 WTBF and can be heard online at www.Troytrojans.com.
