Miller Takes Three-Peat As SBC Player of the Week

Troy University senior outfielder Bryan Miller captured Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors for the third straight week, the league announced on Monday.
Miller, a native of Incline Village, Nev., posted a .643 batting average during the Trojans' final regular season series against South Alabama to go along with a 1.212 slugging percentage. He also extended his hitting streak to 23 games. During his streak, he is batting .563.
Miller currently leads the nation in hits (99) and doubles (31).
During the weekend series against the Jags, Miller had 14 hits and five doubles. His on base percentage was .643. In the opening game of the series, on Thursday, he had three hits ? two singles and a double. He followed that on Friday when he struck for two doubles and a single and totaled three RBI. In the Saturday finale, he again had two doubles and a three-run home run.
Miller is the first player in Sun Belt Conference history to win either the Player or Pitcher of the Week honor for three straight weeks.
The Trojans will open play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday night in Lafayette, La., against the homestanding Ragin' Cajuns. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Sun Belt Conference will announce its 2008 All-Conference teams on Tuesday evening as part of Sun Belt Family Night at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
The evening will include a student-athlete and media home run derby with each of the tournament's eight teams represented by one player. The schools will be divided into two competing teams ? East and West. The first round will consist of 10 outs, while the second round six outs.

Participants in the inaugural Media Home Run Derby will include: George Faust (KLFY-TV 10), Jeff Horchak (KLFY-TV 10), Hugh Keeton (KATC-TV 3), Matt Deaville (KATC-TV 3), Josh Parrott (The Advertiser), Cole Wright (Fox News Lafayette), Jude Walker (Planet Radio 96.5 FM) and Dan McDonald (McD Media/formerly of The Advertiser).
The media portion of the Home Run Derby will consist of one round with each participant receiving 10 outs. Temporary fencing will be placed in the outfield to mark the home run wall.
The 2008 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship will begin on Wednesday, May 21 and run through Saturday, May 24.
