LAFAYETTE, La. - The Troy Trojans continue on their road trip tonight when the play the homestanding Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette in pivotal three game series this weekend.
“This is going to be a hostile and loud place this weekend,” coach Bobby Pierce said. “They have great fan support and it is a tough place to play baseball on the road.I fully expect a hard fought series this weekend. We will get their best shot.”
Troy (25-17, 12-6) is coming off of a mid-week win at Jacksonville State in which the Trojan pitching and the offense came to play. Troy's pitching staff struck out 10 batters in the game and the offense gave plenty of run support with 10 runs on 14 hits.
ULL (20-21, 10-11) has struggled this season after being picked to win the league by the coaches form the Sun Belt Conference. They are only batting .244 as a team and have one player batting over .300 on the roster.
Troy will send the reigning pitcher of the week to the hill tonight to open the series. Tim Wheeler (3-4) will toe the rubber looking to run his record to 4-4.
ULL will counter with their ace in Hunter Moody, who has had a lot of success against Troy.
“Their pitching staff is the kind that will keep you in any game,” Pierce said. “We will have to be aggressive and try to jump on them early.”
Ryan Ellison (1-2) will hurl the ball for the Trojans on Saturday with Troy making a game time decision on Sunday.
Troy and ULL will square-off tonight at 6:30 pm to open the series. The two will play tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm, a game that will be televised by CSS.
