Trojans Host New Orleans

TROY, Ala.- After dropping a mid-week non conference game to rival UAB, the Troy Trojans will return home to face New Orleans in a pivotal conference weekend series.

“It's going to be good to be back at home this weekend,” coach Bobby Pierce said. “We have been away for the past couple of weekends and we will have a tough opponent in UNO.”

The Trojans took a four-game win streak into Birmingham but UAB hit three home runs in the seventh inning to pull away and take the game, 10-5.

In conference play, the Trojans are second to Florida Atlantic. The Trojans are 5-1 in league play following a rare road sweep of Western Kentucky.

“It is always tough to sweep a team,” Pierce said. “It is ever harder to sweep a team on the road and in conference play.”

Tim Wheeler and Travis Burge were two guys who pitched the Trojans to wins on Friday and Saturday over WKU.

Wheeler (1-3, 5.79 ERA) will toe the rubber Friday night in search of his second win of the season. Against WKU, he went seven complete innings and gave up four runs on nine hits.

Burge (4-1, 2.75 ERA) will take the hill for Troy on Saturday. Burge picked up his team best fourth win after tossing a complete game against Western Kentucky. He did not allow more that one hit in an inning and did not allow a runner past second after a fourth inning home run in the win.

Senior Ryan Ellison (0-1, 6.39 ERA) will close out the series on the mound for Troy. Ellison gave up three runs on three hits against WKU in four innings of work.

UNO will come into the game at 14-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

The two teams will meet Friday night in the first game of the three game series. First pitch is slated for 6 pm.
