Troy Loses to Arizona State, 7-1

“I am proud of how we responded today after last night,” coach Bobby Pierce said. “We competed every pitch and we didn't quit. Arizona State is the best college hitting team that I have seen in a long time.”
To start the third inning, Raoul Torrez hit a 0-2 fastball over the wall in left field giving ASU the early 1-0 lead.
After the home run, ASU added three more runs in the inning when Jason Kipnis and Brett Wallace walked and scored on a double by Petey Paramore capping off the four-run third inning inning.

Junior Travis Burge (3-1) took his first loss of the season against the Sun Devils. Burge went six innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three.
Freshman A.J. Howard came on in relief of Burge and gave up a two-run home run. He also walked one batter and struck out one. Josh Storm tossed the final inning and walked one batter and struck out one.
Mike Leake (4-0) got the win going six innings allowing only one run on five hits. Tommy Rafferty (2) got the save going the final three innings allowing one hit.
