TROY, Ala.- Three Trojan Baseball players were rewarded with a shot to take their talents to the next level as seniors Josh Dew, Clint Robinson, and Clegg Snipes were selected by teams in today's Major League Baseball Draft.
“I am very excited about the opportunity that these guys have before them,” head coach Bobby Pierce said. “All of these guys worked very hard this season to get to this point and we are very proud of what they have accomplished.”
Dew was the first Trojan selected to a team as he was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 14th round. This season, Dew had an overall pitching record of 7-2 with 10 saves. His ERA was 2.48 and had a total of 97 strikeouts in 65 innings and currently leads all collegiate pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings. Dew was also named the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year. At the plate, he batted .325 with eight home runs and 31 RBI.
Robinson, a first team all-conference selection, was selected in the 25th round by the Kansas City Royals. Robinson led the entire Trojan hitting staff in all of the power categories. He blasted 17 home runs while tallying 71 RBI. Robinson also led the team in hits, runs, doubles, slugging percentage, and total bases while setting several new school records in multiple categories.
Snipes put his name on the map during the 2006 season when he posted a perfect 7-0 record. As the primary Friday night starter for the Trojans in 2007, Snipes finished his senior season with a 6-6 record and a 5.44 ERA. Snipes was selected in the 40th round by the Royals. He hurled 99 innings and gave up 74 runs while walking 23 and striking out 85.
“At Troy we try to give our players the best opportunity to go pro,” Pierce said. “I think this says a lot about our program and the hard work our guys put in.”
