Trojans Beat JSU for the Second Time this Season

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.- Troy closer Josh Dew came on in the eighth inning to shut the door against the Gamecocks to get his seventh save and seal the game for the Trojans by a score of 6-5.
JSU (23-19) put runs on the board in the first inning when Nic Cleckler and Jake Ball walked and scored on singles from Clay Whittemore and Jay Harrington giving JSU the early 2-0 lead.
Troy (25-16) put up four runs in the third inning with three walks to sophomore Beau Brooks, freshman Shohei Fujita and sophomore Trevor Tyre. Senior Clint Robinson and junior Bryan Miller singled scoring a runner. Senior Kevin Weidlich singled scoring the other two runners giving the Trojans the lead 4-2.
Senior Ian Craze doubled to left center in the fifth then stole third and scored on a throwing error by catcher Andrew Edge increasing the lead to 5-3.
The Trojans added another run scoring Fujita on a bases loaded walk to senior Josh Dew for a 6-3 lead.
JSU added a run in the seventh inning when Bert Smith walked and scored on a single by Nic Cleckler. The Gamecocks plated another run in the eighth when Daniel Adamson reached base on an error by Fujita and scored on an error by Dew at first closing the gap to 6-5.
The Trojans were led at the plate by Miller who had two hits. Craze and Dew both added doubles.
Whittemore led the Gamecocks with two hits and two RBI.
Justin King (1-2) started for the Gamecocks. He went 2 1/3 innings walking five Trojan hitters and striking out one. He gave up one run on one hit.
Senior Ricky Ibarz got the start on the hill and went 2 1/3 innings giving up three run on three hits while walking four and striking out three. Senior Bert Elliot (1-0) got the win on the mound as he threw 3 1/3 innings while not allowing a hit and striking out three. Senior Jonathan Sabat threw one inning giving up one run on one hits while striking out two.
Dew (7) came on to get the save throwing the final 1 1/3 innings striking out two batters.
The Trojans will be back in action tomorrow as they play host to Auburn. The Tigers beat Troy earlier in the season. Troy will send freshman Tim Wheeler to the hill looking for his fifth win. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
