Trojans Complete Sweep of Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark.- The Trojans played small ball to beat Arkansas State to capture the game and complete the sweep by a score of 4-1.
Troy (24-16, 11-7) drew first blood for the third time this weekend in the top of the second. Senior Josh Dew led off with a walk followed by a single from senior Kevin Weidlich. Junior Bryan Miller singled scoring Dew with Weidlich scoring 4-3 put out by sophomore Beau Brooks for the early 2-0 lead.
The Trojans added another run in the third when senior Ian Craze led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a single from Edgar Ramirez. Craze scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Clint Robinson for a 3-0 lead.
Arkansas State (8-26, 8-13) finally got on the board in the fifth inning when catcher Drew Rogers led off the inning with a double and came around to score on an RBI single by Cody Pace. The Indians left the bases loaded in the inning.
Troy added an insurance run in the ninth on a single from Miller who scored on an RBI single from sophomore Brett Henry giving the Trojans the 4-1 lead.
I am very proud to get the sweep,” head coach Bobby Pierce said. Our pitching was great and I am pleased of where we are going.”
The Trojans were led at the pate by Miller who had three hits and an RBI.
Hallahan (3-4) got the win on the mound going 5 2/3 innings allowing one run on seven Indian hits while recording two strikeouts. Freshman Tim Wheeler (1) came on to close the game and get the save. He threw the final 3 1/3 innings not allowing a hit while striking out three batters.
Jett Jones (1-3) was the losing pitcher for ASU hurling 5 1/3 innings and giving up three runs on five Trojans hits. He also struck out five batters.
The Trojans will return to action Tuesday night as they will travel to Jacksonville to face the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
