Dew Powers Trojans Past Arkansas State 6-4

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Troy senior Josh Dew continued his mastery on the mound by striking out eight Arkansas State hitters over 4.2 innings of work Saturday night to help the Trojans to a 6-4 victory.
Troy (23-16, 10-7) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when senior Clint Robinson doubled and scored on an RBI double from Dew. The Trojans added another run in the second on three singles from junior Bryan Miller, senior Ian Craze and sophomore Beau Brooks.
Arkansas State (18-25, 8-12) got on the board in the fourth inning when Josh Yates doubled to left center and scored on an RBI single by Guy Brown.
Troy put two more run on the board in the seventh to extend their lead to 4-2. Craze led off with a walk and scored on Robinson's RBI double. Dew followed with a single scoring Robinson.
The Indians added another run in the fifth when Jett Jones singled and scored on an RBI single by Tyler Doke. Jones had an inside the park home run in the seventh inning to make the score 4-3.
The Trojans added single runs in the eighth and ninth inning to close the game a capture the series.
Junior Ryan Ellison started on the hill for Troy but did not factor in the decision. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven batters. Dew (7-0) came on in the fifth inning and closed out the game to get the win. Dew allowed just two runs on two hits.
T. J. Brewer (4-3) took the loss for ASU despite a strong outing. Brewer pitched seven innings, scattering 11 hits and allowing four runs. He struck out 12 Trojan batters.
Dew, Robinson, Kevin Weidlich, Trevor Tyre and Brooks had two hit each for Troy. Dew also drove in a pair of runs to help his own cause on the mound.
The Trojans will look for the sweep in Sunday's game when senior left-hander Joe Hallahan takes to the mound. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
