Joe Hallahan Leads Troy in Win Over Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Senior Joe Hallahan pitched 7.2 innings holding FAU to three runs on six hits earning his second win of the season and propelling the Trojans to an 8-3 win.
Troy (12-8, 3-2) got on the board early when senior Ian Craze reached on an error by the right fielder and was advanced to third on a single by senior Edgar Ramirez. Senior Kevin Weidlich picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Craze. Senior Clint Robinson blasted his second home run of the weekend to give the Trojans an early 3-0 lead.
"We are playing pretty good this weekend," head coach Bobby Pierce said. "We have to keep it up. We have scored early and distanced ourselves during the game and that has helped our pitchers."
The Trojans added a run in the sixth inning when Weidlich reached base by way of a single and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Brett Henry.
Troy put several insurance run on the board in the seventh inning. Catcher Beau Brooks was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Craze doubled to right center scoring Brooks. Weidlich reached base on a fielders choice that scored Craze. Josh Dew singled to shortstop advancing Weidlich. Dew and Weidlich scored on singles by Ben Woods and Henry putting Troy up 8-0
Florida Atlantic (17-6, 2-3) had troubles hitting Hallahan. FAU could only muster six hits in the game. They got on board in the eighth when Mike McKenna reached base on a two out walk. Daniel Cook, Justin Stevens, and Justin Martin all had back-to-back singles that helped FAU plate three runs.
"Joe pitched a great game," Pierce said. "I couldn't be prouder of him and this game tonight put us in position to sweep the series."
Freshman Tim Wheeler came on in relief to close out the game.
Troy was led at the plate by Weidlich and Henry who had two hits each.
Troy will go for the sweep on Sunday as first pitch is set for 12 p.m. CT.
