Troy Tops Indiana in Extra Innings 4-3

DOTHAN Ala.- The Trojans came up to bat in the bottom of the 10th inning with a chance to win the game and they produced.
Kevin Weidlich got the inning started with a single to right field followed by a single to left by Bryan Miller. Both runners advanced on a balk by Indiana pitcher Chris McCombs (0-1) putting the runners on first and second. Brett Pierce singled to right field scoring Grant Luke, who pinch ran for Weidlich, giving the Trojans the 4-3 victory.
Troy (6-3) got out to an early lead in the first inning when Indiana (0-1) made two errors giving Troy an early 2-0 lead. Brett Henry reached on an error by the second baseman. Clint Robinson doubled to right field and advanced to third on a throwing error by the right fielder. Kevin Weidlich kept his hot hitting in tact by hitting an RBI double scoring Robinson.
Troy added another run in the second Brett Pierce reached on a bunt single and stole second on the next pitch. Charlie Calamia got an infield single advancing Pierce to third. Ian Craze singled up the middle scoring Pierce, giving the Trojans an early 3-0 lead.
Indiana got two runs back in the fourth inning when Keith Hass singled and moved to second on a balk. and later scored on a Kipp Schutz sacrifice fly. Brian Lambert singled and was moved around the base path for the other Hoosier run.
The Hoosiers tied the game in the fifth when Andrew Means singled to right and scored on a Lambert single.
Head coach Bobby Pierce still does not like where is team is at.
"I'm glad we won but we still need to get a lot better," Pierce said. "Brett and Kevin are playing well and both are hitting very well, but we still need to get a lot better."
Josh Dew (2-0) came on in the tenth to get the win.
Leading the Trojans at the plate was Pierce, who was 2-for-3. Miller and Weidlich were both 2-for-5.
Troy returns to the diamond tomorrow as they will face Georgia Southern.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
