In the opening contest, the Trojans started the scoring with two runs in the first inning. The Golden Eagles quickly responded with two unearned runs to tie the game 2-2.
Sophomore Felicia Hammer put the Trojans back on top with a solo home run over the left-field fence.
In sixth inning, Troy sealed the victory tallying five runs on four hits. The Trojans never trailed en route to the 9-4 win.
Junior Angela Lopez picked up the win and Senior Michelle Grinage was credited with the save.
I was pleased with the offensive performance,” Troy coach Melanie Davis said. In particular, the way we manufactured runs throughout the game.”
In the Trojans second game, sophomore Heidi Johnson and senior Amanda Regans led Troy each going 2 for 3 with two RBI.
Junior Courtney Davis's solo home run in the fifth inning helped Troy survive defensive mistakes. The Trojans had two errors and gave up two unearned runs in the 5-4 victory over Louisiana Tech.
Heidi Johnson continued to swing the bat well, and it was good to see Senior (Amanda) Regans go 2 for 3 and have two key RBI,” Davis said.
Freshman pitcher Rocky Paige picked up the win, and Grinage picked up her second save of the tournament.
Our pitching staff only gave up two runs,” Davis said. Our defense has to become more consistent behind the staff.”
The Trojans will be back in action Saturday facing LSU (13-1) at 11:15 a.m.
