Trojans Set To Open Fall Practice

The Trojan baseball team, fresh off winning back-to-back conference championships and a berth in the 2006 NCAA Regional, hits the field this afternoon to begin work toward the 2007 season.
Even though the Trojans posted a 47-16 record last season, head coach Bobby Pierce is not changing his approach to his sixth season at Troy.
"Personally, I'm taking an unfinished approach," Pierce said. "The last thing I want to do is rest on back-to-back championships. Our goal is to get to Omaha. We played well and had a great season last year, but we didn't get to Omaha."
Perhaps the biggest part of fall practice will be to see where the players stand and how they can contribute to helping the team return to where they left off last season.
"Our goal in the fall is to fill our starting lineup and get our pitching rotation in order," Pierce said. "Also, we'd like to develop depth and hope the new players adopt our philosophy of winning."
Winning is something the Trojans have had success in doing over the past few seasons. Last season, in the Trojans first year in the Sun Belt conference, they had the conference lead the whole season after being picked to finish third in the league by the coaches.
Pierce is looking forward to getting back to work and seeing how this team will stack up to last years.
"Our staff is pleased with the effort so far," Pierce said. "I am looking forward to seeing the players compete. We had a great off season and its time to take it a step further."
The Trojan baseball team had the 2006 Scout Day on Monday. Several players had great days but the spotlight was on the pitching.
"The pitching stole the show," Pierce said. "We had several pitchers throwing in the 90's, most notably Clegg Snipes, who was clocked at 93."
