Trojans Sign Five in Early Period

Headlining the group is pitcher Ashlyn Williams of Oak Grove High School (Hattiesburg, Mississippi).
Williams led the Oak Grove squad to a 2006 5A State Championship all the while being named Mississippi's Miss Softball” and Mississippi's Gatorade Player of the Year and Fastpitch Player of the Year.
She also garnered the Clarion-Ledger's Player of the Year award among other honors.
For her career, Williams has struck out 793 batters in 420 innings.
Left-handed power and movement pitcher Ashlyn Williams is the type of high caliber player that makes our recruiting class extremely strong. We look forward to having her on the mound for us for the next four years,” Head Coach Melanie Davis said.
Also signing with the Trojans for the 2008 season were catcher Hillary Hughes (Wetumpka, Ala.), second baseman Ashley Adkins (Tampa, Fla.), third baseman Katie Ely (Tampa, Fla.) and outfielder Kaitlin Kenney (Orange Park, Fla.).
Davis believes her latest group of signees has a chance to be the best of her tenure.
This class of 2007 is potentially our best that we have ever had. Each member of this class has excelled both athletically and academically.”
The Trojans will begin play in their 2007 season on February 9th when they travel to Hammond, La. to participate in a tournament hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
