After seeing their six-game win streak come to an end on Tuesday night in Jacksonville, Ala., the Troy Trojans close out the 2005 regular season with a three-game series against the JU Dolphins in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Trojans have already clinched the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title and are simply hoping to build their momentum for next week's A-Sun Tournament, as well as pad their resume for the NCAA selection committee.
The task at hand for JU is more daunting. The Dolphins must sweep the Trojans in the three-game series while, at the same time, having last place Lipscomb sweep Gardner-Webb, in order to qualify for the six-team tournament.
Troy will continue with its reshuffled pitching rotation this weekend, with senior right-hander Brent Adcock (10-2, 3.14) getting the call to start the series opener Thursday night while Jacksonville will counter with junior left-hander Donald Brickle (2-5, 4.77).
The Trojans will call on senior right-hander Landon Brazell (8-4, 3.86) on Friday to square off with Dolphins's junior left-hander Kyle DeVries (8-3, 4.12).
Saturday's regular season finale will pit Troy freshman left-hander Steven Morelock (6-3, 4.72) against Jacksonville junior right-hander Neal Frontz (6-6, 4.74).
Troy enters the series third in the nation with 80 home runs while hitting .306 for the year. Senior Henry Gutierrez has a chance to win the A-Sun triple crown if he closes strongly. He leads the league with 18 homers and is second with 59 RBI. His .375 batting average ranks 5th in the league.
Senior Adam Godwin leads all of college baseball with 78 stolen bases.
