Coach David Alberdi returns for his second season as an assistant sprints and hurdles coach in 2023-24.Â

Alberdi entered the scene and immediately impacted the culture of Troy, coaching Alex Robinson to a record-breaking performance in the 200m with a time of 21.24. He also helped post two top 10 times in program-history for the 60m with Tydreke Thomas and Jaleel Gilbert.

Before coming to Troy, he was a volunteer coach at Eastern Michigan University for the first semester of the 2021-22 season. As a volunteer coach at Grand Valley State University, he assisted both the men's and women's teams in winning the 2021 GLIAC indoor and outdoor conference titles. That same year, he assisted the women's team in winning the DII Indoor national title and the men in winning their first DII Outdoor national title in team history.

Alberdi competed at Grand Valley State University in the 200m and 400m, and during his career, the Lakers were outdoor conference champions in 2018 and 2019 and indoor conference champions in 2020, 2019 and 2018.

He graduated from Grand Valley in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Kinesiology at Troy.
