The 2011-12season will be Michael Curry’s sixth year on the bench for Troy. Curry has been instrumental in the Trojans’ rise in the Sun Belt Conference, culminating in Troy’s first Sun Belt title in 2010.
The 2009-10 season also included the Trojans reaching the postseason for the second consecutive year, earning a berth into the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and a match-up with Ole Miss.
His third season, 2008-09, was highlighted by Troy being the only conference school defeat each member program, a return to the postseason with home game in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) and a 10-game improvement in conference record over the previous year by posting a 14-4 league mark.
Curry is directly involved in recruiting, specifically using his knowledge of Troy target recruiting states Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Georgia –knowledge he gained as a top assistant coach in the extremely competitive Florida junior college ranks.
The Selma, Alabama native came to the Trojans from Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville, Fla., where he served as an assistant for four seasons.
Curry began his tenure at Okaloosa-Walton in 2002 after four seasons as head basketball coach at Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery. While at Robert E. Lee, he saw six players receive college basketball scholarships and coached the 2001-02 Metro Montgomery 6A player of the year.
Curry played collegiately at Chattahoochee Valley Community College (1989-91) and at Georgia Southwestern College (1991-92) before receiving his bachelor's in physical education from Alabama State University in 1996.
A 1989 graduate of Selma High School, Curry played basketball and ran track. As a senior, he was voted team Most Valuable Player and finished third in the state in the high jump. He was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, but grew up in numerous parts of the world, as his dad was in the U.S Air Force.
Curry has three brothers and a sister.
