Gabe Martorano begins his third season with the Troy football program and first as a defensive analyst; his first two seasons, he was a graduate assistant working with the Troy defense, specifically the safeties.
In his second season, Troy ranked third nationally with five defensive touchdowns, 26th in red zone defense (77.8 percent), 22nd in sacks (2.64) and 33rd in tackles for loss (6.2) as the Trojans won the Sun Belt West Division title and played in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl.
In his first season, the Trojans finished the season winning three of their final four games and ranked as a top 25 defense in November. The Trojans closed out his first season third in the Sun Belt, allowing just 143.3 rushing yards per game and led the league, allowing 122.5 rushing yards in league contests.
Additionally, the Trojans led the Sun Belt allowing just 32 third-down conversions during league play and just 13 passing touchdowns all season, the second fewest in the league and 24th fewest nationally.
He joined the Troy staff following one season as the assistant defensive backs coach at Valdosta State (2023) and two seasons (2021-22) coaching the quarterbacks and receivers in addition to serving as the offensive coordinator and special teams coach for the JV squad at Alvernia University.
He helped lead Valdosta State to a Gulf South Conference title in his lone season in addition to coaching an All-American at safety.
Martorano earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from The College of New Jersey in 2020 and his master’s in business administration from Troy in 2024.
