In his third different stint at Troy, Sean Reagan begins his second season as the Trojans’ offensive coordinator in 2025, which will be his 12th overall season at Troy. Reagan returned to Troy for a third time in 2024 following a five-year run at West Virginia under former Troy head coach Neal Brown.
Â
Reagan’s first season running the Troy offense was historic as Devonte Ross set the program’s single-game record for receiving yards after recording 229 yards in Troy’s victory over Florida A&M.
Â
Additionally, Ross became just the sixth player in program history, and first since 2012, to top the 1,000-yard receiving mark, while Damien Taylor recorded the program’s 13th 1,000-yard rushing season. The duo became just the third in program history to reach their respective 1,000-yard marks in the same season (2012, 1984).Â
Â
Reagan had to navigate a season in which three different players started multiple games at quarterback and the Trojans used six different combinations on the offensive line.Â
Â
Troy capped the season scoring 28 or more points in its final five games, averaging 35.8 points in those games. The Trojans ranked 19th nationally in November, averaging 449.8 yards per game and 14th in the month, averaging 37.0 points per game.Â
During his second stint at Troy, Reagan helped lead a high-flying Trojan offense led by record-setting quarterbacks Levi Brown, Corey Robinson, Deon Anthony, Brandon Silvers and Kaleb Barker. He was also key in the recruiting of Gunnar Watson to Troy and Goose Crowder to West Virginia (Crowder transferred to Troy prior to the 2023 season). Additionally, Reagan was a member of the Troy staff that won the 2017 Sun Belt title and strung together three consecutive double-digit win seasons for the first time in program history.
Â
Reagan served as West Virginia’s passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2023. He served his first three years coaching the quarterbacks before moving to tight ends in 2022.
Â
The Mountaineers put together its first nine-win season in seven years in Reagan’s final season in Morgantown and were one of the top offensive teams in the country. West Virginia ranked third nationally in rushing (228.9 yards per game), fifth in passing per completion (15.02) and 27th in total offense (434.6).Â
Â
Quarterback Garrett Greene finished second in the country, averaging 16.37 yards per completion and finished ninth, averaging 6.43 yards per carry, while Hudson Clement finished third nationally, averaging 21.82 yards per reception. Greene earned back-to-back Allstate Sugar Bowl Manning Award Player of the Week awards the final two weeks of the season and was named the MVP of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
Â
In 2022, despite losing a veteran starter, his tight end group still made its presence felt in the offense on more than 800 snaps.
Â
West Virginia finished the 2021 season fourth in the Big 12 in passing yards, finishing with more than 3,200 yards through the air. Mountaineer quarterback Jarrett Doege, who later transferred to Troy, was second in the league in passing yards, being one of only two passers with more than 3,000 yards and was fourth in total offense.
Â
In 2020, despite having to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, West Virginia had one of the most improved offenses in the nation in terms of total yards, showing gains of more than 60 yards rushing per game, almost 30 yards passing a game, more than 90 yards of total offense and more than seven points a game.Â
Â
Doege threw for more than 2,500 yards and 14 touchdowns. He ranked 10th nationally in completions per game (23.9), 16th in passing yards (2,587), 23rd in passing yards per game (258.7) and 37th in completion percentage (.639). He finished with four 300-yard passing games, had multiple passing touchdowns four times and had 30 or more completions three times.
Â
In 2019, quarterback Austin Kendall averaged 20.8 completions per game, ranking fourth in the Big 12 and 25th nationally.Â
Â
Reagan came to West Virginia in 2019 after serving as an assistant coach at Troy from 2008-18, including the last four years as a member of current West Virginia head coach Neal Brown’s staff. He was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2018, oversaw the quarterbacks and running backs the previous three years (2014-17) and was the quarterbacks coach from 2011-14. He also served as a graduate assistant in 2010 at Texas Tech, where he worked with Brown, the offensive coordinator of the Red Raiders at the time.
Â
In 2018, Troy finished 10-3 and defeated Buffalo in the Dollar General Bowl, marking the third consecutive season with a bowl win. Barker started the first six games, posted more than 1,000 passing yards and 10 touchdowns, and ran for 261 yards and three touchdowns before a season-ending injury. Prior to that, Reagan worked with three record-setting quarterbacks at Troy: Brandon Silvers (2014-17), Corey Robinson (2011-13) and Levi Brown (2008-09).
Â
In 2017, Troy finished 11-2 with a Sun Belt championship, New Orleans Bowl victory and a regular-season win at No. 22 LSU, ending the Tigers' 49-game home non-conference winning streak. Troy finished the 2016 season 10-3 with a victory in the Dollar General Bowl, the first top-25 ranking in school and Sun Belt history and tied for the best win-improvement in the country.
Â
Reagan also coached the running backs for three years on Brown’s staff. During that time, Jordan Chunn finished with 1,288 yards and 16 touchdowns and went on to set the Troy career rushing and total touchdown records in 2017. He also mentored running back Brandon Burks, Troy’s eighth 1,000-yard rusher, finishing the 2015 season with 1,005 yards and seven touchdowns.
Â
Robinson also had an impressive career with the Trojans, finishing as one of the top passers in school, Sun Belt and NCAA history. He led Troy with school and league records for touchdown passes, attempts, completions, passing yards and total offense. He finished his career as one of five players in NCAA history to throw for more than 3,000 yards and have more than 3,000 yards of total offense in four different years. He finished No. 9 in FBS history in passing yards and set the NCAA record for completion percentage in a game (30-of-32 against UAB in 2013), earning Capital One National Player of the Week honors.
Â
After returning to Troy in 2011 as the quarterbacks coach, Reagan coached All-Sun Belt performer Deon Anthony. In 2012, Anthony set the Troy single-season record by completing 69.9 percent of his passes (79-of-113) and was named the Allstate Sugar Bowl Manning Award Player of the Week.
Â
As a graduate assistant coach in 2008-09, Reagan was on the Trojans’ staff that won two Sun Belt Conference championships, including finishing with an undefeated conference record in 2009.
Â
Reagan began his coaching career at the high school level as an assistant at Rockdale High School in Conyers, Georgia, for four years (1998-01) before moving to Chestatee High School in Gainesville, Georgia, for four years (2002-06), including the final two as the offensive coordinator. He spent the 2006-07 seasons as the offensive coordinator at Monroe Area High School in Monroe, Georgia, before heading to Troy.
Â
A native of Conyers, Georgia, Reagan received his bachelor’s degree in physical education and leadership from North Georgia College & State University in 2008. He and his wife, Elizabeth, are the parents of three daughters: Heidi, Chloe and Maggie.
