Griffin McCarley begins his fourth overall season at Troy and first as the senior football analyst. He began his career at Troy as graduate assistant working with the Trojans’ inside and outside linebackers.
Troy’s defense posted one of the best turnarounds in the nation in 2020 as the Trojans improved 63 spots nationally in scoring defense from 2019 to 2020 and 38 spots in total defense. No player in the country has more tackles than linebacker Carlton Martial the last two seasons as the rising junior finished the 2020 season with 113 stops – tied for the most in the country – after recording 126 tackles in 2019. Additionally, weak-side linebacker K.J. Robertson missed just two tackles the entire 2020 season, which was the fewest among all linebackers with at least 325 snaps.
Prior to Troy, McCarley spent one season as a student assistant and one season as a graduate assistant following a playing career at North Alabama where the Lions won a pair of Gulf South Conference titles.
He graduated from North Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2018. McCarley is married to the former Allison Pursifull.
