Troy University Athletics
Off and Running
Trojan Fans,
The 2010-11 athletics season is off and running, and what a great start we have had.
Football, soccer, volleyball and cross country have gotten their seasons off to solid starts and it has been obvious to me that the support of the Troy fans has had a lot to do with that. It seems that our supporters have been out in full force at every event, wearing cardinal and cheering until the very last minute of play.
It has been especially good to see the support from the Troy University student body. At the opening football game against Bowling Green the student section was packed. The students were loud and enthusiastic to the very end and gave the team the little extra they needed at the end of the game to come away with the win.
I have seen the same at our first soccer and volleyball games and I know our student-athletes and coaches appreciate the support from everyone on campus.
After a busy opening weekend in September, when we hosted a home football game, home cross country meet, home soccer and volleyball tournaments, things have settled down some. That opening weekend was a challenge for the entire athletics department staff, and I want to pass along my gratitude to everyone who worked so hard to make those events successful.
This weekend the Trojans football team will be on the road, but just up the road in Birmingham against in-state rival UAB. The series with the Blazers has been both exciting and competitive and I expect to see another exciting game this weekend.
I am encouraging all Troy fans to make the short drive to Birmingham for the game. Kickoff is at 3 p.m., there will be no television coverage of the game, and I would love to see legendary old Legion Field packed with fans wearing cardinal and cheering for the Trojans.
Contact the Athletics Ticket Office at 334-670-3681 or 800-878-9467 to get your tickets and go support the Trojans this weekend.
I hope to see you at the game.
Go Trojans!
