Graduate Assistant Bethany Gainey
Bethany Gainey is in her second year as a graduate assistant in the strength and conditioning department. Her primary responsibilities include the pre-and-post season strength and conditioning programs for women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf and softball teams.
Before coming to Troy, Gainey worked as a health and fitness consultant for the Coca-Cola Company for two years. At Coca-Cola she created incentive programs for future and current members, updated member information and performed cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose screenings.
Gainey is not new to Division I athletics however, as she was the strength and conditioning coach at Georgia State University in 2002. While at Georgia State, Gainey was responsible for all 12 athletic team’s strength and conditioning programs. Gainey also collaborated with coaches on team and individual performance, and worked with athletes to enhance performance and prevent injury.
Gainey competes in fitness competitions and, in 2003, was a Ms. Fitness America National Competitor. In 2005, she was an International Federation of Body Building Professional Fitness competitor. In the near future, Gainey plans to compete in the Fitness Olympia competition.
Gainey is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
In 2000, she graduated with a bachelor’s in exercise sport science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
