TROY, Ala. - Troy's Aaron Piasecki was selected as the Sun Belt Player of the Week on Tuesday following a four-game stretch that saw him reach base 16 times.
The Trojan leadoff man hit .667 on the week, reaching base at a .761 clip while slugging 1.133. He collected ten hits while drawing four walks and two HBPs without a strikeout, tallying two triples, one homer, five RBIs and eight runs scored.
"What an outstanding week of performing by AP, especially when the team needed him most," head coach Skylar Meade said. "This is a great honor for him, and many more great moments are ahead."
Piasecki began the week with two hits, two walks and an HBP at New Orleans last Tuesday and carried that momentum into Troy's series victory over Louisiana. The Central Michigan transfer picked up two hits in the opener, including the go-ahead two-run triple in the 7-6 victory. He tripled again in game two, adding two walks and an HBP.
In the finale, Piasecki opened a career-best five-hit performance by crushing a leadoff homer 419 feet over the right field wall. He later cut Louisiana's lead to 9-8 with an RBI single in the seventh after the Trojans had trailed 9-3 and closed his day with a single in the ninth, scoring from third on Jimmy Janicki's walk-off grand slam to secure the series.
On the season, the senior utilityman is hitting .338 and ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with a .476 on-base percentage, having drawn 41 free passes on 28 walks and 13 HBPs to just 16 strikeouts. Defensively, he's started games at shortstop, second base and centerfield and has found a home as the Trojan right fielder for the past 15 games.
Troy is back at Riddle-Pace Field at 6 p.m. Tuesday night against Jacksonville State.
