TROY, Ala. - The College Baseball Foundation tabbed Troy's Jimmy Janicki as the Buster Posey National Catcher of the Week on Tuesday, following a spectacular week both at and behind the plate.
The sophomore backstop was ultraproductive in four games for the Trojans last week, batting .450 with four doubles - one in each game - along with two homers and 13 RBIs, ending his outstanding week with a walk-off grand slam in Sunday's series-clinching win over Louisiana. While in the squat, Janicki gunned down three of six attempted base stealers.
"Jimmy is the man," head coach Skylar Meade said. "He's been playing his best baseball as the year goes on. We are excited for him to be honored with this weekly award, but for us, he is our National Catcher of the Week every single week."Â
Janicki opened the week with a career-high six RBIs at New Orleans last Tuesday, falling a triple shy of the cycle. The Downers Grove, Ill., native added an RBI double in all three games of Troy's series with Louisiana, while his walk-off grand slam capped off a five-RBI day at the dish.
On the season, Janicki has been one of the top offensive threats in college baseball. His 55 RBIs lead the Sun Belt Conference and rank 10th nationally, while his 15 doubles are fourth in the SBC and 29th in college baseball.
Earlier this spring, Janicki was one of 50 catchers to earn a spot on the Buster Posey National Catcher of the Year Award Midseason Watch List. He's currently listed as one of the top prospects for the 2027 MLB Draft, coming in at No. 25 on Baseball America's draft board.
Troy returns to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday as the Trojans host Jacksonville State at Riddle-Pace Field.
