TROY, Ala. - A pair of Trojans will enter the 2026 campaign as Preseason All-Americans, as Troy seniors Nico Azpilcueta (First Team, DH) and Blake Cavill (Third Team, 1B) were selected to the National College Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Teams on Friday.
Azpilcueta comes to Troy after a dominant season at Stony Brook, where he was an All-CAA First Team performer. The Sherman Oaks, Calif., product was among the top power hitters in college baseball, ranking 24th nationally with 20 home runs to go along with a .320 batting average, 1.102 OPS, 14 doubles and 61 RBIs.
Azpilcueta's production during his time with the Seawolves garnered him major interest in the transfer portal this offseason, and Baseball America tabbed him as the top-ranked transfer headed to the Sun Belt Conference.
"What a great honor for Nico to be a First Team All-American," head coach Skylar Meade said. "20 homers last season certainly put him on the map. We look forward to plenty of that this spring."
Cavill adds to a plethora of preseason accolades ahead of his second season in the cardinal & white. The Sydney, Australia, native is the unanimous Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year (Coaches, D1Baseball, Perfect Game) as well as a Preseason All-Sun Belt selection at first base.
Cavill's productive 2025 landed him on the All-Sun Belt First Team after hitting .320 with a conference-best .516 on-base percentage while adding 12 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, and 50 RBIs. His 65 walks ranked third nationally, and he'll enter the 2026 season on a 65-game reached base streak dating back to his final seven games with Western Kentucky in 2024, the longest active streak in the country.
"The list of honors for Blake continues with being a Preseason Third Team All-American," Meade said. "He is prepared mentally to handle this and will do what he does best, which is hit and get on base at a high clip."
Opening day for the Trojans is just a week away, as Troy will hit the road to face Mercer, Feb. 13-15. The first action at Riddle-Pace Field will be a three-game series with Campbell, Feb. 20-22, following Troy's midweek trip to No. 3 Mississippi State on Feb. 17.
