Â
LAFAYETTE, La. – Missed opportunities and turnovers haunted Troy in a 33-6 loss at Louisiana on Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium in Sun Belt Conference action.
Â
Troy (3-3, 1-1 SBC) turned the ball over twice inside its own 28-yard line, leading to 10 Louisiana (5-2, 2-1) points; dropped two interceptions, and those drives resulted in touchdowns; missed a field goal and an extra-point, and was a combined 4-for-16 on third and fourth down.
Â
The Trojans held Louisiana to a four-and-out on the opening possession, but Troy muffed the ensuing punt, and the Cajuns recovered on the 8-yard line. Three plays later, Lunch Winfield threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to KeDarius Wade, giving the Cajuns the game's first points.
Â
Troy put together a 15-play drive to open the second quarter, consuming nearly seven minutes on the clock. The drive stalled at the 24-yard line, and the Trojans couldn't connect on the 42-yard field goal.
Â
Louisiana answered with a touchdown on the ensuing drive and then kicked back-to-back field goals in the final 104 seconds of the opening half to take a 19-0 lead into the locker room.
Â
Troy showed signs of life right out of the break, taking the opening possession 75 yards for a touchdown, capped by Tucker Kilcrease's 23-yard touchdown run after Goose Crowder was knocked out of the game rushing for nine yards on a fourth-and-8 the play before.
Â
However, the Cajuns answered with a 16-play, 91-yard touchdown drive that took 8:22 off the clock. Louisiana converted three third downs on the drive, which was extended by a pass interference call in the end zone after a third-down stop.
Â
Louisiana rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns, led by Winfield's 65 yards on 15 carries. Winfield completed just 11-of-21 passes for 70 yards.
Â
Crowder completed 9-of-16 passes for 65 yards before leaving the game, and Kilcrease completed 5-of-10 for 76 yards. Jordan Lovett led Troy's ground game, rushing for 50 yards on 10 carries.

Quotable – Troy Head Coach Gerad Parker
I take full responsibility for this loss, as I always do. But now we are going to see what kind of football team and operation we are moving forward. I am very excited to get us back to work to see how we are going to react to this and if we can be proud of who we are week by week moving forward.
