Trojans Drop Season Opener to Georgia

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy volleyball put forth a valiant effort, but it wasn't enough as Georgia completed the sweep Saturday afternoon inside Pete Hanna Center.
Georgia's (2-0) Bianna Muoneke paced the Bulldogs with 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Troy (0-1) kept each set competitive but was unable to convert late in all three. Senior Amiah Butler led the Trojans with 13 kills on a .233 hitting clip, finishing with 14 points overall.
Freshman Madison Marx made her Trojan debut, tallying 16 assists across the final two sets.
Set 1- UGA 25, Troy 16
The two teams opened the match trading points back and forth, with five ties in the first twenty points. The Bulldogs eventually pulled away, thanks to hitting .250 (10-4-24) compared to the Trojans -.67 percentage (6-8-30).
Set 2- UGA 25, Troy 20
Troy jumped out to a lead in the second set, 5-2. The Trojans were led by six kills a-piece from Butler and sophomore Olivia Kwiatkowski. The Bulldogs were able to take the lead 12-11 and did not give the lead back.
Set 3 – UGA 25, Troy 19
The third and final set was yet again close out the gate, with both teams trading points early on. It was Georgia's attack that stepped up again, with the Bulldogs hitting .286 on ten kills.

"We battled against a tough, well coached Georgia team. We learned a lot for our first match. We competed hard and played together throughout the entire match. Amiah and Jaci did a nice job leading us tonight and we look forward to another competitive match tomorrow against Samford."
Notables
- The Trojans are now 2-5 all-time against Georgia.
- With the loss, Troy is 15-18 in season openers since 1993.
- Marx made her collegiate debut with the Trojans. This marks the second consecutive season with a true freshman taking the court in the opener, with Kwiatkowski seeing action last season against Maryland.
