Four Trojans Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

TROY, Ala. – A pair of Troy men's and women's golfers were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in the at-large category. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and compete in at least 70 percent of their team's competitions to be eligible.

Jake Springer and Lee Poppell represented Troy's men's team, while Laura Fangmeyer and Alyssa Mercado represented the women's squad.

Springer, who will move on to the Academic All-American ballot, carries a 3.95 GPA in risk management insurance and helped lead Troy to the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history. The Tallahassee, Fla., native closed the season with a 71.87 stroke average, two individual victories and 17 of his 39 rounds under par.

Poppell, a sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla., has a 3.94 GPA in sport management. He played a key role in Troy's run to a No. 29 finish nationally this season with a 73.26 stroke average and 11 rounds under par.

Fangmeyer wrapped her junior year with a 3.70 GPA in sport management. The Tulln, Austria, native posted Troy's second-best stroke average and rounds under par with a 75.41 and four, respectively.

Mercado finished her Trojan career with a 3.51 GPA in sport management and posted a 77.38 stroke average. The Lake Mary, Fla., native turned in a pair of top 25 finishes, including placing 10th at the Green Wave Invitational.
