Trio of Trojans Invited to NCAA East Preliminaries

TROY, Ala. – Altwayne Bedward, Tydreke Thomas and Shanyah Washington punched their tickets for Troy track and field into the NCAA East Preliminaries to be done from Wednesday, May 28 to Saturday, May 31.
"I am proud of all that have qualified for the first round of the NCAA," director of track & field / cross country Marc Davis said. "Getting this far is tough, but these kids have worked hard to get there. We were very close in a few events. However, at this level, there are never any guarantees. We are looking forward to watching them compete."
Bedward kicks off the meet for the Trojans at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, with the first round after being ranked 16th in the east with a school-record 18.87 meters. The junior holds nine of Troy's top-10 throws in the shot put event for 2025, where he won three events, with his lowest finish being seventh – he claimed six podium finishes. His throw of 18.87m came in the SBC Championships for second place.
Thomas continues competition at 6 p.m. on May 28 with the 100m dash, looking to punch his ticket into the quarterfinals on Friday, May 30 at 6:35 p.m. The sprinter had the 24th-best time in the 100m among the nation with the top time in the Sun Belt Conference. He ran his personal best in the Sun Belt Championships, during the final event, to clinch gold and All-Sun Belt First Team with a Troy program record 10.13. At 5-10, Thomas never finished below 10th in the 100m, collecting five top-10 finishes with one gold.
Washington finishes the trio of Trojans with her 100m event on Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m. with a shot at extending her play into the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 31, at 5:35 p.m. The 5-6 sprinter brought home the 12th-best time in the east region at 11.20. All top-five finishes in the 100m event on the women's side were held by Washington, and the top four in the 200m. Her record-breaking time of 11.20 came at the Doc Anderson Invitational, where she brought home the gold.
