TROY, Ala. – All-Sun Belt First Team selection Taylor McKinney earns NFCA All-Region Gulf Second Team for Troy softball, the committee announced Thursday afternoon.
"This is a huge honor for Taylor and Troy softball," head coach Eric Newell said. "She had a career year in her senior year and is definitely worthy of the recognition. We appreciate her commitment to our program and tip our hat to one of the best of all time."
McKinney becomes the fourth player in Newell's tenure to receive NFCA recognition and the first on the second team – she earned NFCA All-Region First Team in 2024. The senior cemented herself in Troy history during her final season, finishing fourth in batting average (.342), second in slugging percentage (.628), fourth in on-base percentage (.441), second in RBIs (157), third in homers (40), tied for 10th in triples (9), fourth in runs scored (150) and tied for second in walks (100) in a Troy career. She also erupted via single-season accomplishments, starting with Sun Belt Player of the Week in week one with three homers and a 1.700 OPS through Troy's Trojan Classic Tournament and ending as an All-Sun Belt First Team member.
The outfielder led Troy softball in nearly every category, including slugging percentage (.750), RBI's (53), homers (15), total bases (126), walks (30), sac flies (4) and triples (3) – she also tied the single-season record in Troy history with 54 runs scored. Her .750 slugging percentage sat fourth in the SBC and 71st nationally while ranking third in single-season history. In the field, McKinney ranked fourth (min. 50 chances) with a 97.8 fielding percentage on 80 putouts and seven assists.
