TROY, Ala. - Following a monster week at the plate and in the squat, Troy catcher Brooks Bryan was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week for Week 13.
Bryan, a junior from Opelika, Ala., went 7-for-16 at the plate, with all seven hits going for extra bases as he tallied two doubles, a triple, four home runs and seven RBIs. The powerful left-handed hitter also drew six walks and an HBP, giving him a .560 on-base percentage and a 1.838 OPS on the week.
Bryan drew a pair of walks against No. 18 Alabama on Tuesday before crushing two home runs with a triple, three RBIs and two walks in Troy's win at Samford on Wednesday, the first multi-home run game of his career.Â
In Troy's 2-1 series victory at Arkansas State, Bryan sparked Friday night's comeback in the 9-8 win with an RBI double in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 8-5. Bryan started another rally in Saturday's 8-7 win, leading off the seventh inning with a 455-foot moonshot to trim the A-State lead to 7-5, the farthest home run by a Trojan this season. Bryan homered again in Sunday's 7-6 loss on a two-run shot in the top of the ninth.Â
From behind the plate, Bryan gunned down a pair of base stealers, including one to end the 11th inning in Friday's 12-inning win.Â
Bryan's powerful week gives him a team-best 12 home runs on the season. His 56 RBIs rank third in the Sun Belt Conference and he ranks fifth with 15 doubles.
Bryan is Troy's fifth Sun Belt Player of the week this season, joining Shane Lewis (Week 1), Sean Darnell (Week 2), Gavin Schrader (Week 5) and Blake Cavill (Week 11). It's the first time in the 2024 All-Sun Belt First Team member's career that he's won the league's player of the week.
