Â
TROY, Ala. – Brantley Scott was noticeably absent from Troy's NCAA Selection Show Watch Party on Wednesday and for good reason. The Troy senior shot a 6-under 64 to win the U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Canongate on White Oak in Newnan, Ga.
Â
Scott's victory advances him to a Regional Qualifier for the right to play in the 125th U.S. Open Championship at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., this summer. The next qualifying takes place from May 19 until June 2, depending on the location and will consist of 36 holes.
Â
Scott opened with a bogey on No. 5, his first hole of the day, and from that point on, he dominated the golf course. The Dothan, Ala., native immediately followed with an eagle on the 348-yard, par-4 No. 6, added birdies on the 11th and 13th before closing the round with birdies on three of his final four holes.
Named an All-Sun Belt First Team selection on Tuesday, Scott posted a -0.61 score vs. par over his 18 spring rounds, with nine finding a red number and six finishing in the 60s. After shooting 8-over in his second round back from injury, Scott played his remaining 16 rounds within two strokes of par, with all nine of his under-par rounds coming during that stretch.Â
