Women’s Tennis Defeats Coastal Carolina, Advances to Quarterfinals of Sun Belt Tournament

ROME, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team put together a gritty performance to overtake No. 10 seeded Coastal Carolina, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon in the First Round of the Sun Belt Tournament at the Rome Tennis Complex. Troy will play No. 2 App State in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Troy (12-9) started fast in doubles and carried the strong play over into singles, where it picked up crucial wins to secure the match victory. The Chanticleers opened the match with a quick victory in the No. 3 doubles spot, before Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva answered with a 6-4 win at No. 1. It was the duos 11th win of the year and forced the doubles point to a third match.
Gabrielle Leslie and Emilia Namyslo came up clutch at the No. 2 spot to secure the first point of the match with a 7-5 win.
In singles, Coastal Carolina evened the score at 1-1 with a win in the No. 1 spot. Guirguis put Troy back ahead with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2. It marked the 13th singles win of the spring for the Junior from Egypt.
The Chanticleers once again tied things up with a victory at No. 3, but it would prove to be the last time they would find the scoreboard the rest of the match.
Leena Metwally got the Trojans within one point of the match victory with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 4. Troy needed to win just one of the two remaining matches to keep its season alive, and that's exactly what it did. Hagar Ramadan-Amin came up with the clinching 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 5.
The final match went unfinished with Troy leading in the third set.
