No. 18 Troy Drops Midweek Matchup at Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - No. 18 Troy fell 11-1 to Jacksonville State in seven innings in Tuesday's midweek matchup at Rudy Abbott Field.
The Troy offense drew ten free passes on seven walks and three HBPs. However, their lone base hit came on an RBI single by second baseman Sean Darnell in the fifth inning. Darnell has recorded at least one RBI in his last three games and is tied for second in the Sun Belt Conference with 22 on the season.
Jax State put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning and knocked Troy starter Adam Falinski out of the ballgame after 1.1 innings. Falinski surrendered four hits with four runs, three earned runs, one walk and one strikeout. In total, the Gamecocks collected 13 hits on the evening.
Gamecock starter James Wilson went 4.2 innings and tallied six strikeouts. Wilson surrendered one earned run on one hit and five walks. Hard-throwing righty Joe Scarborough went 1.1 scoreless innings in relief while Ryan Geraghty pitched a hitless seventh.
For the Trojans, junior left-hander Brock Tapper was sharp in relief. The Northwest Florida State transfer went a career-high 3.2 innings, surrendering one run on four hits while picking up three strikeouts. Chase Nelson followed in the sixth, allowing one run on two hits. In the seventh, the Trojans recorded one out before the Gamecocks scored five runs off of a combination of Chase Cartron and Zak Szabo to put the 10-run rule in effect.
