TROY, Ala. – In the final game of 2025, Troy men's basketball turned in its best offensive performance of the season, knocking off Texas State, 100–80.
Troy (9-5, 2-0) shot 61.4 percent (20-of-32) from the field and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from 3-point range, both season highs.
The Trojans were led by Cooper Campbell, who finished the game with a monstruous stat line of 19 points, six assists, and five steals.
Thomas Dowd also added a team-high 22 points - his third time eclipsing the 20 point mark this season.
Texas State (8-7, 1-2) received strong performances from DJ Hall and Mark Drone, who finished with 22 and 20 points, respectively.
As was the case throughout the afternoon, both teams made shots at a high level to open the game, shooting a combined nine-for-nine through the first five minutes. Texas State carried a slight edge in these opening possessions, leading 12-9 at the first media timeout.
Troy found separation shortly after, using a 14-point run to take a 26-14 advantage and force a Texas State timeout. Cooper Campbell made two of his four threes during this span.
The Bobcats trimmed Troy's lead to as little as five in the first half, but a string of six points from Theo Seng rebuilt the advantage, as Troy carried a 45-33 lead into halftime.
Troy did not trail at any point in the second half, opening the period with five straight points.
A Dowd three-pointer extended the lead back to double digits with 13:50 remaining. The margin stayed around that range until another five-point run ballooned the Trojans' lead to 15 at 77-62.
Troy led 89-80 with just over two minutes remaining and scored the final 11 points to secure a 100-80 victory.
Quotable – Head Coach Scott Cross
"That was a great win. We knew it was going to be tough; Texas State is a gritty basketball team. We shot 61 percent against a good defensive team; our guys played really well. It was a great all-around win for our guys and gives us the opportunity to stay at the top of the league. We protected home court, and it sets us up for a big game on Saturday against South Alabama."
