NEW ORLEANS, La. -Â Following one of the most impressive regular seasons in Troy volleyball history, Amiah Butler has been named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, the conference announced Wednesday.Â
Butler finished the regular season second in the conference in kills per set, putting down 4.60 balls per frame. The number is also good for 13th in the country, while she is 24th and 26th in the nation in points per set and total kills, respectively.Â
"Amiah has worked exceptionally hard to be recognized as one of the top players in the Sun Belt this year," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I'm thankful to the SBC coaches for selecting her as a First Team All-Conference player. Amiah has truly had one of the best individual seasons in program history and has earned her position in the Troy record books as one of the all-time great Trojan volleyball players.Â
"Amiah has grown so much as a player and person during her time at Troy. This as one of her big goals for her senior year and I am really happy and proud of her and I'm thankful that she still gets to put on her jersey again as we head to the Sun Belt tournament."Â
The Pensacola, Fla., native's 3.60 kills per set mark for her career ranks third all-time in Troy history, and she is currently in seventh place in kills.Â
Butler's signature performance of the season came on Nov. 8 against Southern Miss, in a game that Troy needed to win to qualify for the Sun Belt Tournament. Butler recorded a career-high 32 kills, hitting at a .375 clip.Â
Troy will open the Sun Belt Tournament tomorrow, Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m. against Marshall. The action from Foley Events Center will get underway at 4:30 p.m.Â
