NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion defeated Troy, 33-0, Thursday night at S.B. Ballard Stadium in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Â
The Monarchs (7-3, 4-2 SBC) jumped out to a 20-0 lead at halftime and added two more scores after the break. The Trojans (6-4, 4-2), who lost for a second straight game after winning five straight contests, missed a 39-yard field goal as time expired in the opening half and turned the ball over on downs at the ODU 11-yard line in the fourth quarter.
Â
Goose Crowder made his first appearance for the Trojans since Sept. 13 but was sacked eight times in the game as ODU finished the game with nine sacks; the third time this season the Trojans have surrendered seven or more sacks.
Â
Devin Roche paced the Monarch offense, rushing 16 times for 145 yards, while Colton Joseph completed just 10-of-20 passes but had a passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. ODU finished with 351 yards on the ground and 501 yards of total offense.
Â
Crowder completed 11-of-21 passes for 98 yards in his return, while Tucker Kilcrease, who started the game, completed both of his pass attempts before leaving the game with an injury. Troy mustered just 138 yards of total offense in the game.
Â
Nathanial Eichner kicked a pair of field goals for ODU, but also missed one and missed an extra point in the game.
Â
Donnie Smith recorded his team-leading seventh sack of the season, while Devin Lafayette had nine tackles and broke up a pass for the Trojans.
Â
Troy returns to Veterans Memorial Stadium next Saturday (Nov. 22) to host Georgia State in the home finale. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

Quotable – Troy Head Coach Gerad Parker
"Tonight was a complete misrepresentation of how we prepared for this game. It's a misrepresentation of who we are. I own this entire thing – all the failure moments in all three phases. Getting shutout is unacceptable. We will do everything in our power to get it fixed. We have to find out the whys, look at the tape and go back to work without flinching. That's who we've been, who I am and what this program expects. We aren't going to buy into the narratives that we no longer have something to fight for. There is enough to play for simply by getting the chance to play this game; that's enough. You play this game for a group of men who love each other. So, we're going to go out next week on Senior Day and honor the game the right way."
