TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball dropped a hard-fought match to Texas State (25-19, 23-25, 25-27, 23-25) inside Trojan Arena on Thursday night. The Trojans took the first set behind a strong .357 hitting percentage but could not hold the momentum as the Bobcats rallied to take the next three.
Amiah Butler once again led Troy (2-9, 0-3 SBC), finishing with 17 kills (17-5-42). Butler has recorded double-digit kills in all 11 matches for the Trojans this season. Kalina Calvillo followed closely with 14 kills (14-6-29), while Ashlynn Axtell led the defensive efforts recording six blocks.
The Bobcats' (7-7, 2-1 SBC) offense was led by Samantha Wunsch (14-6-34) and Nina Moorer (13-9-35). Anna Blaine assumed primary setting duties, finishing with 41 assists.

As mentioned, Troy came out of the gates strong hitting .357 in the opening frame. After the two sides traded points early, the Trojans created some distance from the Bobcats, taking an 18-14 lead late in the set, which they went on to win. Butler swung at a .400 clip and Sydney Austin killed three balls on three swings.
Set 2 – Texas St. 25, TROY 23
Troy jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second set, but Texas State responded quickly with a 6-1 run of its own. The Trojans once again finished the set with a higher hitting percentage, but four service aces from the Bobcats proved to be the difference, as Texas State leveled the match at a set apiece.
Set 3 – Texas St. 27, TROY 25
The most back-and-forth set of the night featured 12 ties and five lead changes. Kalina Calvillo's .500 hitting clip kept the Trojans in the set, but the Bobcats' five total blocks gave Texas State the all-important 2-1 edge.
Set 4 – Texas St. 25, TROY 23
Both teams struggled offensively in the fourth, with Troy hitting .032, while Texas State was not much better at .083. Once again it was the Bobcats block that fueled them, including four from Jade Defraeye. Tied at 23-23, two straight points, including an ace from Blaine, sealed the four-set victory for Texas State.
Quotable – Head Coach Josh Lauer
