TROY, Ala. – Zay Dyer joined Shaulana Wagner as the second Troy women's basketball player to collect Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week recognition, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
"I am thrilled that Zay earned this honor," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "She is such a unique athlete in that she has the quickness of a guard with the length and skills of a post player. She works hard and contributes to our program in so many ways. She played two great games this week, and I'm proud she was recognized by the Sun Belt as the player of the week."
The Sun Belt Conference's leader in rebounds and double-doubles exploded in those categories as she averaged 18 points and 16.5 rebounds to secure a pair of double-doubles over the weekend. She also rejected 2.5 blocks per game and shot 51.5 percent from the field.
Her weekend opened against Coastal Carolina, where Dyer erupted for the first 20-20 game by a Trojan since Ja'Mia Hollings had 23 points and 20 rebounds against South Alabama (Jan. 26, 2023). Dyer finished with 25 points and tied for the fourth-most rebounds by a D-I Trojan in a single game at 21. Her career-high four blocks also helped the Trojans survive the Chanticleers in overtime. Game two secured the double-double sweep as the junior forward shot 50 percent from the field for 11 points and grabbed seven offensive rebounds to finish with 12.
No. 5 extended her advantage over the SBC, leading the league in rebounds as the lone player with 10-plus per game (10.1) – her 10.1 rebounds also rank 23rd in the country. She also pushed her double-double numbers to eight for 11th in Division-I basketball. Additionally, Dyer ranks in the top five for the SBC in blocks (1.2) and field goal percentage (42.1).
Dyer leads the Trojans on the road for a matchup with App State on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m.
