TROY, Ala. – For the second straight week, Zay Dyer collects the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
"The only thing better than Zay getting player of the week is her getting it two weeks in a row," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We're so proud of her accomplishment. She's put in the work, and she's so talented. And we can't wait to see how she uses this to help lead this program to bigger and better things."
Dyer becomes the first Trojan to receive back-to-back player of the week awards since Kayla Robinson on Feb. 5 and Feb. 12 in 2017-18. The junior forward improved on her player of the week numbers from last week, averaging 20 points, 16.5 rebounds and a block. She also had an impressive shooting split, going 56.7 percent from the field, 60 percent from deep and 75 percent from the line.
The Atlanta native returned home to cap off a 2-0 weekend and extend Troy's win streak to four. Against Georgia State, Dyer shot 8-of-15 to lead Troy in scoring (18) and had six offensive rebounds to finish with 17 total. She opened the week at App State, ending with her fourth game with 20-plus points (22) – she also ended with 16 rebounds.
No. 5 continues to be at the forefront of the SBC for the Player of the Year award as she leads the conference in rebounding (10.9) and double-doubles (10) while ranking in the top 5 for field goal percentage (fifth – 43.9) and blocks (fifth – 1.18). Her rebound and double-double numbers also sit ninth and sixth in the country.
The back-to-back SBC Player of the Week leads Troy against its in-state rival, South Alabama, on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
