TROY, Ala. - Troy baseball is set to be represented on the international stage this fall, with senior Blake Cavill being named to Team Australia's roster for the 2024 U-23 World Cup in Shaoxing City, China.Â
"It will be an incredible experience to be able to represent my country and Troy baseball," Cavill said. "I am truly blessed and honored to do that."Â
The Sydney, New South Wales native is no stranger to competing internationally, having represented Australia in the 2015 Little League World Series, the 2016 U-15 World Cup and the 2019 U-18 World Cup.Â
"Any time a player or coach gets the chance to represent their country, we will find every way to facilitate that in our program," head coach Skylar Meade said. "So having Blake do that for the fourth time is a testament to his skill and passion for his native country of Australia. We are excited to follow him in the Classic this September, but eagerly awaiting his return to the Trojans as we embark on an exciting 2025 season."Â
Cavill, a 6'1", 245-pound first baseman, transferred to Troy from Western Kentucky this fall. Cavill is coming off a productive season with the Hilltoppers where he hit .313 with a .970 OPS, eight home runs and 47 RBIs. He began his college career at Northwest Florida State, where he hit .379 with a 1.174 OPS and 15 home runs as a sophomore.Â
Group play will run from September 6-10 where Australia will take on Colombia, Puerto Rico, Japan, Great Britain and China in Group A. The Super Round is set for September 12-14 and the Medal Games will be held on September 15. Â
