Troy Opens Indoor Track & Field Season at Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker

TROY, Ala. - Troy opens its indoor track & field season on Friday as the Trojans are set to compete in the Birmingham Ice Breaker in Birmingham, Ala.Â
It's the fourth consecutive season that Troy will participate in the event, and they return after grabbing 13 top ten finishes in six different events last year. Â
Troy dominated the women's shot put last year, with Joy Edward (13.44m) taking first place and Abby Grosinske (13.16m) and Leah Kennedy (12.68m) coming in right behind her in second and third place.Â
 Kennedy and Grosinske also saw success in the women's weight throw, with Kennedy (15.79m) placing fourth and Grosinske (15.76m) placing fifth. Â
Kasia Cooper put together a strong performance in the women's 400 meter dash, finishing in second place at 56.79 seconds, while Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente grabbed a top five finish in the women's high jump, placing fourth with a 1.60m jump. Â
In this year's event, Troy will have 17 athletes competing in 10 different events, including the women's 60m, 200m, 400m and 800m, 60m hurdles, 4x400 relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump and weight throw. Â
The Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker will be Troy's only meet in the month of December as they won't compete again until the UAB Blazer Invitational on January 11. Â
