2009 Sun Belt Champions
Led by Sun Belt Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, Levi Brown, the 2009 Trojans became the first team in league history to finish 8-0 in conference play en route to a fourth straight Sun Belt title and berth in the GMAC Bowl as Troy finished the season 9-4.
Brown set a Troy single-season record with 4,254 passing yards (first QB in Sun Belt history to top the 4,000-yard mark) and averaged 327.8 yards of total offense per game. His favorite target was Jerrel Jernigan, who finished the season with 71 catches for 1,101 yards and four touchdowns, while Tebiarus Gill added six touchdown receptions.
The ground game was paced by Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Shawn Southward's 12 touchdowns and 602 yards, while DuJuan Harris added 10 scores and 583 yards as the Trojans hit opponents with a balanced rushing attack.
The "Killer Bs" headlined Troy's defense, with Boris Lee and Bear Woods forming the best linebacker combo in the league. The pair combined for 170 tackles, six sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.
After opening the season with losses to Bowling Green and Florida, head coach Larry Blakeney's squad rolled off seven straight wins before a mid-November loss to Arkansas. The Trojans rebounded to defeat Florida Atlantic and Louisiana behind a combined 95 points to complete the Sun Belt sweep.
