Damien Taylor Named SBC Offensive Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy junior running back Damien Taylor has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Taylor, a Northport, Ala., native, rushed for 190 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries in Troy's victory over Coastal Carolina at The Vet. He averaged 6.8 yards per carry and scored on a 41-yard run midway through the third quarter to extend Troy's lead out to 35-17. Taylor carried the ball 10 times in the fourth quarter to help Troy ice the game.
He finished with five carries of 10-plus yards and three with 20-plus yards en route to his career-high total. Taylor ranks fourth in the Sun Belt, averaging 75.78 yards per game and has topped the 100-yard mark three times. He leads the league (min. 110 carries), averaging 4.18 yards after contact.
Taylor paced a 342-yard rushing attack by the Trojans as he and Gerald Green (123 yards) became the first Trojan duo since 2018 to rush for more than 100 yards in the same game. His 190 yards rank as the 26th most in the country this season.
Troy is off this week before traveling to Georgia Southern on Nov. 16 as the Trojans look to become the first Sun Belt program to reach 100 conference wins in league history.
