TROY, Ala. – After putting together arguably the most dominant two-match stretch in Troy Volleyball history and becoming the program's all-time kills and points leader, Tori Hester was named the Sun Belt Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Hester recorded 63 kills over the Trojans two five-set wins against Southern Miss. On Thursday, Hester had the second-most kills in a match in program history as she recorded 33 on 100 swings. She followed that remarkable performance on Friday with 30 kills. On her 20th kill of the match on Friday, Hester recorded her 1,672nd kill and became the programs all-time kill leader.
"What Tori accomplished this weekend offensively was really special," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I am very thankful that the coaches in our conference recognized that. It is a very well-deserved honor and I'm looking forward to Tori having another great week as we wrap up the regular season at home on Thursday and Friday night against App State."
Hester, a senior from Salisbury, N.C., is now the standalone leader in the program in kills (1,682), kills per set (3.99) and points (1,929.5).
Last week Hester was the leader in the Sun Belt in kills by 20. She also recorded 6.30 kills per set, which was 1.55 clear of second in the conference. Hester currently sits tied for 10th in the country in total kills in a five-set match with 33, and her 33 kills is the most in a match this season by a player in the Sun Belt. She is also just one of four players in the country to record triple-digit swings in a single match.
In both of her matches last week Hester recorded a double-double with a season-high 22 digs on Thursday and 13 on Friday. She has 11 double-doubles this season.
Hester ranks in the top 10 nationally in a plethora of offensive categories including attacks per set (4th), points per set (6th), kills per set (6th), points (7th), kills (7th) and total attacks (8th).
This is Hester's second time winning the weekly honor this season. She won it after the first week of play when Troy went 2-1 to open its campaign, which included a five-set win over LSU.
Troy wraps up its 2024 regular season on Thursday and Friday in Trojan Arena as it welcomes App State for a pair of matches starting at 6 p.m. The Trojans will honor Hester's record-breaking milestones prior to the match on Thursday, and then its four seniors on Friday.
