TROY, Ala. – One of the top golfers in Troy history, Fátima Fernández Cano, has earned her LPGA Tour Card after finishing third on the Epson Tour and its Race for the Card rankings. The LPGA Card is the second in Cano's professional history after she earned her way onto the premier stage of women's golf in 2021.
"(It means) the world," Cano told LPGA.com. "It's been a roller coaster the last couple of years. I was out there two years ago. I did not have the greatest time just because my game wasn't there. So, knowing what I know now, it's really great to go back, learning what I've learned, and just going back. I'm the same player in a way, but I'm also a little bit better."
A four-time first team All-Sun Belt selection, Cano won the 2014 Sun Belt individual championship as a freshman and played in an NCAA Regional in all four of her years at Troy.
The 2024 Epson Tour season was Cano's best as a professional as she turned in four top-4 finishes, including a victory at the Guardian Championship in Prattville, Ala., for her third career victory since turning pro. Cano played in just one event on the LPGA Tour in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and her first full season on the LPGA Tour came in 2022.
Athletes who finish in the top 10 of the Race for the Card will be seeded into Category 9 on the 2025 LPGA Tour Priority List.
